Proposal Guidelines
If you have an original idea for a book and would like Mivar Press to
review it, please send your proposal (manuscripts are not accepted) to:
When submitting your proposal, be sure to include the following information:
Title Information
- Proposed title
- Subject discipline
- Author's name
- Author's position and affiliation
- Mailing address
- Work phone
- Fax
- E-mail
- Home phone
If you prefer that we contact you only at home or
only at work, please note it. In addition, if your book will have more
than one author, please complete the above information for all authors.
Proposal Information
- Provide a brief overview of the proposed book, as well
as its overriding objective. Be sure to address why you think readers
will buy the publication.
- Discuss why your topic is unique. Is the body of literature
on the subject incomplete? Has this subject recently undergone change?
- Being as specific as possible, identify the groups that
will be interested in your publication.
- If you are covering a "hot" topic, address
whether your book will need to be updated and when.
Content
Draft a tentative table of contents that indicates
the topics the book will cover. If you know the headers within the chapters,
include these along with the chapter titles. If available, enclose a sample
chapter.
Book Information
- Book length, including any appendices
- Completion and delivery date of the final manuscript
- Bio or curriculum vitae of author(s)
- Titles of other published works
Proposal Assessment
Editors work closely with authors to discuss book ideas, assess the viability
of proposals, and develop manuscripts. A qualified editor will read and
comment on the quality of your proposal. This assessment evaluates the
flow of information and the quality of content.
Editing Services
Mivar Press offers its authors professionally copyedited services for
their manuscripts. Mivar Press copyeditors review your manuscript for
mechanical writing errors and correct any spelling, grammar, punctuation,
and consistency errors. The different types of editing services that we
offer are content, line, or proofreading.
- Content: Content editing strengthens the
clarity and structural flow of a book. It includes honing grammar, with
special attention paid to content organization and message clarity.
The recommended changes to the manuscript are returned to the client
for review and approval before changes are made to the electronic file.
- Line: Line editing involves checking the
manuscript for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors and sentence
structure.
- Proofreading: Proofreading involves reviewing
the book after the designer has laid out the text prior to printing.
Proofreaders check to ensure the headers/footers, page numbers, organization
of the parts of the book, footnotes, graphics, index, and copyright
information are correct. They also look for spelling errors, missing
text, and bad word breaks and double-check references.
Interior Text Layout Design
Mivar Press offers typesetting services to make your book, inside and
out, look professional.
Graphic Design Services
Mivar Press's graphic design services offer authors the opportunity to
have illustrations and figures created for your book.
Indexing Services
Mivar Press offers indexing services to help
authors with the tedious task of including a professional index in your
book.
Cover Design
Consumers make their buying decisions often within seconds of viewing
a book. If a book doesn't have an effective cover, a sale will be lost.
Mivar Press offers cover design services that will appeal to your target
market.
Registrations
Mivar Press can secure all the registrations that are needed to sell in
the trade at minimum expense. These registrations include ISBN, Advanced
Book Information (ABI), Library of Congress Catalog Number (LCCN), Catalog
in Publications (CIP) data block, bar code, and copyright.
