SAP customers want to understand the business value of making mobile investments.

The next wave of business process innovation is beginning to take place around mobile infrastructure enabled by SAP Netweaver. However, most business and IT managers do not know how to go about creating effective mobile solutions that leverage their investments in SAP. They are not interested in the details of the “cool” mobile technology or infrastructure. This book acknowledges this dilemma, and presents a balanced perspective of what companies need to understand in order to make effective mobile investments and leverage SAP.

The new reign of IT has begun. For managers, the need to understand mobile process solutions is immediate and widespread. Today, mobile process innovations such as mobile field service and mobile asset management have leaped from being a nice-to-have to a need-to-have capability. In the utility industry, for example, mobile solutions are mission-critical for asset management and plant maintenance. In the food and beverage industry, mobile-enabled direct store delivery (DSD) is considered mission critical.

Unlike specialists in the area, managers are not interested in the constantly changing technology or infrastructure details. What they are keenly interested in is a business process level overview that shows them how mobile initiatives can contribute to ROI. At present, that need goes noticeably unmet.

This book addresses the knowledge gap around SAP Netweaver, Mobile Infrastructure, RFID, and Applications.

The readers of this book in the SAP community are business and IT executives, project managers, consultants, managers, and students who are involved with implementing mobile data solutions. Although it will certainly be of interest to those directly engaged in creating mobile strategy or partners creating mobile solutions, it targets a much broader global SAP audience.
